  • 3:02 PM Dismissal

    Greetings GFCHS Students and Families!

I hope you had an enjoyable summer and are ready to start the 2017-2018 school year. Firstly, I would like to make you aware that we have been approved to run a shortened school day schedule for students. Students will dismiss at 3:02 PM allowing time after school for tutoring and common planning for teachers. Detention would also be held during this time.

We will be running a block schedule that allows for longer instructional periods and response to intervention during the school day. Please also note that the due date for summer packets has been changed to Monday, October 2nd. Lastly, save the date for Open House on September 12th at 6:00 p.m. Thank you and we look forward to partnering with you this school year.

Director's Welcome

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Great Futures Charter High School for the Health Sciences (GFCHS), which offers you exceptional opportunities to succeed in high school and prepare for post-secondary education and careers. GFCHS focuses on strengthening the personal, social and academic skills of each student based on national and State of New Jersey standards for academic, civic, and career readiness in the 21st century. To this end, GFCHS staff provide personalized student learning and support services that address the individual talents, interests, and needs of each student to ensure that all students are given every opportunity to meet GFCHS expectations and requirements, graduate high school, and be prepared with the necessary 21st century skills to succeed in their post-secondary education and chosen careers.

GFCHS is fortunate to be partnered with the Boys and Girls Club and with The Jersey City Medical Center and Barnabas Health. These partnerships permit GFCHS to expose students to a range of special activities and learning experiences, and to career pathways in the health sciences.

The GFCHS Student and Parent Handbook is designed to make you aware of all that GFCHS has to offer, and to familiarize you and your parents with its requirements, expectations, policies and procedures. It is important for you and your parents to thoroughly read the information contained in the Student and Parent Handbook, and to refer any questions you may have to members of the GFCHS staff.

It is my hope that you take full advantage of the programs, activities, and resources that GFCHS has to offer. The staff look forward to building productive relationships with you and your parents, and supporting each and every one of you throughout your years at GFCHS. Thank you for being part of our family.

Sincerely,

Wilma Ann Anderson, Director
